The Lower Case: Installation Mashup

The Lower Case: Installation Mashup

From August 12th to the 17th, The Lower Case, a vibrant venue in the heart of Chinatown, welcomed nine talented installation artists for an immersive exploration of light, sound, and interactivity.

Here's what the owner had to say about the installations: “Divorce yourself from your little misery rectangles, and ready yourself (impossible) for an encounter with art in physical space. All invited installations use light, sound, interaction or body orientation in a way that art on a screen cannot.”

During this exciting week, I challenged myself to experiment with two new versions of my installation:

1. Dancer's Canvas: I introduced a captivating video portrait of a dancer, intricately mapped onto the back wall of my installation. As guests entered, they were greeted by this larger-than-life figure bathed in light while vibrant patterns danced at their feet. This self-guided version offered a unique perspective when I wasn't present.

2. Vibrant Perspectives: While most of my work features black backgrounds, I ventured into the world of vibrant backgrounds. This marked my first public installation experimenting with this concept. I've been exploring these ideas in my studio, and The Lower Case provided the perfect opportunity to bring them to life.

Enjoy exploring the creations from this experimental week. In some cases, you'll find more images than usual in the galleries as I played with new ideas. To make navigation easier, I've divided the week into two separate galleries below.
